"Das gehört zum Sprint einfach dazu" - Milan Fretin überlebt Kontroverse und behält Etappensieg bei der Volta ao Algarve

Es war nicht unumstritten, aber Milan Fretin von Cofidis hat mit seinem Sieg im Massensprint auf der 4. Etappe der Volta ao Algarve 2025 die Hoffnungen seines Teams auf den Erhalt des World Tour-Status gestärkt.
Die Kontroverse entbrannte auf den letzten paar hundert Metern. Als Fretin zum Sprint ansetzte, schnitt er scheinbar Wout van Aert vom Team Visma - Lease a Bike und behinderte so die Möglichkeit seines Landsmanns, mit voller Geschwindigkeit zu sprinten. Nach einer Überprüfung durch die Rennjury steht der Sieg von Fretin dennoch fest. "Ich weiß nicht, was ich sagen soll, um ehrlich zu sein. Das ist schon mein zweiter Sieg in der letzten Rennwoche, also ja, unglaublich", sagte Fretin anschließend zu Cycling Pro Net.
Was die Kontroverse anbelangt, so blieb Fretin hart. "Ich meine, im Sprint, wenn du das Gefühl hast, dass du vor ihm bist, vor seinem Rad, dann versuchst du automatisch, den kürzesten Weg zu finden, und ja, ich habe versucht, in der Mitte zu bleiben, voll im Sprint", erklärt er. "Ich habe nach dem Rennen gefragt und ja, es ist nicht viel passiert. Ich meine das ist auch ein bisschen, einfach ein Teil des Sprintens."
